From Israel, the electronic collective False Positive bring a debut pop/electronic with sense of jazz not unlike the works of Two Banks of Four, coupled with lead vocal sensibilities betwen Clara Hill and Amy Atchley.
Definitely the focus here in the vocals more so than thick beats. That fact would be more interesting if a similar focus was placed on the lyrics, which sound more like loose thoughts strung together with no real sense of where the song is going. There are also some moments when their musical spontaneity feels odd, like the dramatic end of “Ghost Train” where the midtempo number with studio polish just falls apart for no reason. Things become familiar, yet fresh with the inclusion of Burt Bachrach’s classic, “The Look of Love”, performed with a bit of Portishead sensibility.
In all, this will appeal to downtempo electronic jazz fans and there’s enough interesting sounds here to look forward to work beyond this debut.
