Sonya Jevette’s blues/R&B style has been heard in various venues throughout in Texas. She’s currently in the midst of a Kickstarter campaign to fund production for a new CD, and GLM contributor, Gayle Bell, provided a short Q&A to get you acquainted.
GB: What motivates you to ‘hit the ground running’?
SJ: Food, clothing and shelter.
GB: Where do you see yourself this year creativity?
SJ: Creatively — I see myself combining all that I have learned up to now. I sing, write, play rhythm and lead guitar. This year I plan on doing more face time with my fans. Been on the grid with social media for over a year now performing and I’m ready to take the next step with touring.
GB: Do you feel that the social network sites enhance the work that you do?
SJ: Yes. I get to be personal with my fans and they can interact with me online — it’s a great way to stay connected. Also, regional booking agents won’t look at artists as an opening act without having at least 1,000 people on your social media pages.
GB: Who do you like to listen to live?
SJ: As far as live and on stage, myself! But then I also like bands such as Red Martin, Rivet Head and Santana. I enjoy kicking back and listening to Brent Borne, Lance Lopez, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan
