Sun Airway is the work of Philadelphia, PA-based musician Jon Barthmus and sounds like a musical blending of someone who appreciates The Sea & Cake + Coldplay + M83. Its youthful, summery sound feels like play on a beach with waves of electronic samples and harmonies washing on the shore. If music released in the fall tends to be more introspective, this is an inward study of dreams in Technicolor (especially in the way that dreams may not always be easily discerned but can be beautiful sensory experiences nonetheless). Standout cuts are “Close”, “Wild Palms”, “Over My Head”, and the title track. I really like the sweeping instrumental track, “Activity 3″, and wish it had been developed into full song with lyrics as well. Soft Fall is an accessible project to fall in like with.
